Notturna di San Giovanni- Marathon in Florence

The “Notturna di San Giovanni” is the traditional night run, one of the oldest road races in Italy, which is organised in occasion of the festivities of the Florence patron- San Giovanni. The marathon was divided into two categories: 10 km for professional runners and the uncompetitive walk for families (4 km). Even the pouring rain couldn’t spoil the sporty atmosphere.

On Sunday evening in Florence I was watching a parade. Men dressed in old-fashioned way were running through the streets. Is this some kind of tradition? I don’t know yet.

This picture is misleading.This drink is not part of Florentine culture: in Florence, we make lampredotto , bistecca, pasta e fagioli, ribollita, pappa al pomodoro always with Chianti wine. We have never been used to drink sweet/sugary drinks, and with-gas-drinks neither. So this advertisement in Florence represent real disinformation to tourists. As a matter of fact, even the Medici family drinked wine!
